The most prevalent kind of continuing permanent hearing loss is sensorineural hearing loss.<\/p>\n

Sensorineural hearing loss <\/strong><\/span>(also know as SNHL) happens when there is an inner ear damage<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>or damage caused in the inner ear structure.<\/p>\n

The damage is more specifically done to the\u00a0<\/span>tiny hair cells<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>in the inner ear. The small hair cells helps to transmit sound from the inner ear to the brain via the hearing nerve.<\/p>\n

SNHL can also be caused by a problem with the\u00a0<\/span>nerve pathways from your inner ear to your brain<\/strong>.<\/span> Loud noises may either be unclear or sound muffled, even louder sounds, and it might be difficult to hear soft sounds.<\/p>\n

While many types of sensorineural hearing loss are irreversible, certain rare situations may induce sensorineural hearing losses to improve on their own.<\/p>\n

Prolonged exposure to loud sounds can lead to permanent hearing loss, so it is important for those who work around such noise (e.g. construction workers) to use the proper protection when working and visit the doctor for regular tests.
