What is a Hearing Test?
With a hearing test, sound is sent through headphones and played back to the subject. The sensitivity of a person’s sense of hearing is evaluated, as well as the lowest sound that can be heard across several speech frequencies. Hearing tests are used to assess any hearing problems and their degree.
A complete hearing check might also assist in determining the sort of hearing loss you have, whether it’s conductive, sensorineural, or mixed, as well as whether medical therapy will be most effective.
Getting your hearing aids with Nofrills
A hearing test, also known as an audiometric evaluation, is a procedure used to assess an individual’s hearing abilities and identify any potential hearing loss.
During a hearing test, various tests and assessments are conducted to measure the person’s hearing sensitivity across different frequencies and volumes.
Our dedicated team utilises cutting-edge technology and equipment to conduct thorough hearing assessments. Rest assured, our experienced audiologists personalise the testing process to address the unique needs of every individual, providing accurate results each time.
Step 1: Otoscopy
Before any hearing test, we conduct a brief but thorough otoscopy where your audiologist will use a specialised tool to examine your ear canal and eardrum.
This step ensures that your ears are in good physical condition and ready for further evaluation.
Step 2: Discussion
Your audiologist will explain the testing process in detail, answering any questions you may have and addressing any concerns. They will also get to know your individual needs and circumstances to get a better understanding of your hearing health.
Step 3: Testing Process
Depending on your specific needs, you will then undergo a detailed hearing test to determine the type and extent of your hearing loss.
Step 4: Results and post-care
Once all hearing tests are complete, your audiologist will review the results with you in detail and discuss your next steps which may include recommendations for hearing aids, assistive listening devices, or follow-up appointments.
Hearing Tests We Provide

Pure Tone Audiometry (PTA) Test
The Pure Tone Audiometry (PTA) test works by exposing you to different sounds of different frequencies, volumes, and pitches (hearing thresholds). This measures your ability to hear sounds and helps identify the type and extent of hearing loss.

Tympanometry
Tympanometry checks how your eardrum reacts to pressure changes, helping us spot issues like fluid in the middle ear, ear infection, tears to the membrane behind the middle ear, or any problems with the Eustachian tube that connects the ear to the throat and nose.

Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) / Auditory Steady-State Response (ASSR)
For babies and newborns, we use safe tests like ABR and ASSR to check their hearing nerve and brain response to sounds. This helps us detect any potential hearing issues early on, ensuring they get the best care from the start.
